This integrated design includes sculptural forms and lighting to create an entry progression and a people gathering space for this important renovated classroom facility on the Auraria Campus. The campus is home to a consortium of three colleges: The University of Colorado at Denver, Metropolitan State College and Community College of Denver. The campus occupies a city grid on the western edge of downtown Denver. |
The forms of Above and Below integrate elements of this grid while introducing softer curving forms and the use of color. Nighttime illumination animates the sculptures and creates a pattern of light shade and shadow on the walkway below. These effects were created using standard spot lighting for ease of maintenance. The forms on the main walkway create a gateway as you approach the building and frame a vista of downtown Denver as you exit the building. |
