Location: 3rd floor meeting room doors, REI Flagship Store, 1416 Platte Street - Denver, Colorado
Date: 1999
Client: REI
Artscapes was approached by Mithune Partners Architecture to design a treatment for the conference room doors of REI's new flagship store located in the historic Transit building in the South Platte valley. The doors are flanked with saw cut panels of native sandstone suspended by rock climbing hardware: chocks, carabiners and pitons. A low relief, inspired by canyon erosion patterns, is carved into each panel. A wave of cottonwood leaves traverses the door, completing the flow of the relief patterns.
