Located on the eastern edge of central Boulder, Greenleaf Park is special because of its connection to downtown and the surrounding neighborhood. Though the topography of the park is unexceptional, the site enjoys outstanding views of the front range. The City of Boulder approached Artscapes to create a signature piece to distinguish this important urban park. Our response was to create a program that included a monumental gateway, paving inlays and accents to the stone pillars along the perimeter of the park. |
The gateway is comprised of massive sandstone columns quarried from the front range. An arching steel lattice crowns the columns. Copper leaves and branches create a tracery across this regular grid to frame a patchwork of sky and sun above and light shade and shadow on the sidewalk below. The gateway is sited to frame a view of Mt. Sanitas in the distance. |
